Since a few years have now passed since this post and no new edition of Damien Trench's diaries has appeared I feel I should admit (to any overseas readers at least) that despite Mr Trench's resemblance to a certain well-known English food writer his published output is partially limited by the fact that he may not exist. He and the comedian, writer and all-round good egg Miles Jupp have never been seen in the same room at the same time. Draw your own conclusion. Although I'm given to understand that Mr Trench has recently published a childhood memoir called 'Egg and Soldiers' complete with recipes, he may have had Mr Jupp's help in doing so. I haven't seen the Damien Trench recipe, but I agree with you that the Tate & Lyle recipe seems a bit heavy on the oatmeal and syrup. Your parkin looks delightful! I enjoyed that second video very much. It was captivating. That steak on brioche in your latest blog looks very good indeed. I have been fiddling around with fresh mango sauces recently and I am going to give yours a try next. Thanks for the musical lift Phil, I enjoyed that little interlude. I'm a complete dinosaur when it comes to music and just keep listening to the same old tracks. I've so enjoyed Damien Trench over Christmas and I suspect I'd enjoy his/your parkin too. Wishing you all the best for 2015, although I do hope you find a bit more time for baking ;-)Choclettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00173996730095174268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2578151607368747182.post-45197040443551939722015-01-01T09:01:26.512+00:002015-01-01T09:01:26.512+00:00Happy New Year Phil!

I haven't made any myself for years so as a tribute to her and my grandmother I should put that right asap. It would be a lovely post Christmas treat, not too indulgent, almost arguably wholesome and good for us, just right for cold January teatimes.Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726164724131916224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2578151607368747182.post-85622629850475402622014-12-24T14:01:36.769+00:002014-12-24T14:01:36.769+00:00Love your music - happy holidays!Love your music - happy holidays!Cuisine de Provencehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14179654559093072126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2578151607368747182.post-81027749136174955412014-12-22T22:49:52.196+00:002014-12-22T22:49:52.196+00:00Parkin would be the perfect thing to take on a cri...Parkin would be the perfect thing to take on a crisp but sunny Christmas walk and so any topping is out for me. Somehow it just doesn't sound as good as it tastes. Mr Trench has been known to top his version of parkin with a mixture of double cream and mascarpone which takes it away from worthiness and into indulgence. Personally I think it's lovely just the way it is.Phil in the Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15904292856978631382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2578151607368747182.post-6546395939545712532014-12-19T11:19:44.608+00:002014-12-19T11:19:44.608+00:00Great music choices, Phil.

It's not something that immediately makes me go "I must make that" because I've always associated it with 'worthiness' (don't press me what I mean - it's not rational). But my friend brought some with her when they visited recently, and my goodness but it was good. My tastes have obviously matured. And my 11 year old son absolutely adores anything rich, treacley, gingery and delicious so I am going to have to get my baking tin out, I think,Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11838426651793558151noreply@blogger.com
